Featured artist — Milthon
Bogóta, Colombia (1963)
Milthon began working with clay and teaching himself until entering as an
apprentice at 18 years old with the Lithuanian Sculptor Hijole Sivickas in
Bogotá. He stayed 2 years and then decided to tempt his fate in Europe, the
birthplace of sculpture.
The influence of Rodin is clearly evident in Milthon’s work.
What strikes him the most about France is the savoir-faire in approaching and
executing art. There is a strong link between the intellectual research and the
mastering of the artwork.
Milthon is also strongly influenced by his roots of South America and notably
pre-Colombian art. “He creates with a discerning ease and shares with us his
imaginary world full of archaic myths.” (catalogue, Marine Ghioni).
While in the
south of France he started off working in ceramic, porcelain and mostly in
bronze and now together with resin. His work is evidently grounded in 2 aspects:
women and movement. Their size ranges from as small as 8in. (20cm), bathed in
gold or silver like voluminous jewelry, to heights of over 9 feet (3 meters),
with nothing of their beauty and elegance being lost in the transition.
- In Nice he was part of a group called “The Blue Cow”
(La Vache Bleu)
- In Paris he has teamed up with several other artists (sculptures,
painters and photographers) and is part of the association Trans Art Express
- Member of the Artists Association of France
- Milthon shows in solo and group expositions throughout France, Italy and
the United States
- 5 public commissions in France, (Cannes and Gap)
- Has won numerous awards for sculpture
