Piet Volckaert
St. Gilles (1902) – Laken (1973)
Piet Volckaert painted the typical quotidian urban atmosphere of a Brussels
long since disappeared.
He is also known for his beach scenes and landscapes
near the Abby of the Red Cloister and the forest of Soignes.
A student of Franz Gaullard at the Fine Arts Academy of St Gilles (Brussels) he is closely
associated with the naïve French Artist Maurice Utrillo.
He was surnamed the
Utrillo Bruxellois by the art critic Alain Viray.
